Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Peru

ANKARA (AA) – Peru reported 96 additional deaths from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, its health ministry said Friday.

Officials said the death toll climbed to 3,224 while the number of confirmed cases rose to 111,698 with 2,929 new cases. Nearly 45,000 patients have recovered from the virus.

Peru reported its first case March 6 and first death March 20.

In Panama, cases and deaths are stand at 10,267 and 295, respectively. A total of 6,245 patients have recovered.

The total number of cases in Columbia is 19,131 with the death toll reaching 682.

After originating in Wuhan, China last December, COVID-19 has spread to at least 188 countries and regions, with Europe and the US currently the worst hit.

The pandemic has killed more than 338,100 worldwide, with and excess of 5.2 million confirmed cases, while recoveries have surpassed 2 million, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University in the US.
