<p>By Ali Mukarrem Garip</p> <p>MOSUL, Iraq (AA) – At least one civilian was killed and 14 others injured when a car bomb exploded late Thursday in Iraq's northern city of Mosul.</p> <p>The bomb-laden car detonated on a main street in the city's eastern side, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said in a statement.</p> <p>It said the attack is thought to have been carried out by Daesh, and an extensive investigation has been launched in the area.</p> <p>Iraq has suffered a devastating security vacuum since mid-2014, when Daesh captured Mosul and overran large swathes of territory in the northern and western parts of the country.</p> <p>In late 2017, Baghdad declared victory over the notorious terrorist group following a three-year war that ended with the fall of Mosul, Daesh’s last major stronghold in Iraq. </p> The Iraqi army, however, continues to conduct frequent operations against Daesh "sleeper cells" which officials claim are still active in certain parts of the country.
