Bus passenger with heroin in suitcase held in Ankara

ANKARA (AA) – A bus passenger who allegedly hid one kilogram of heroin in his suitcase was arrested and then remanded in custody in Ankara on Thursday, according to police sources.

Police stopped a bus in the Elmadag district as part of a routine check, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Suspicious of a passenger's attitude, police searched his suitcase and seized one kg of heroin hidden among clothes in the suitcase, the sources added.

The sources said the passenger was arrested and later brought to a court, where he was remanded in custody.

Separately, in the southern province of Mersin, police stopped a vehicle and seized 110 kg of marijuana, Mersin police said in a statement.

The statement said the driver of the vehicle was arrested and later remanded in custody by a court.

Also, in western Tekirdag, in an operation against drug traffickers, five people were arrested, said police sources speaking on condition of anonymity.
