ISTANBUL (AA) – An Indian national, who was reportedly found guilty of a crime in the U.K., slipped through the hands of British police officials in Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on Wednesday.
The police officers were escorting the individual to India as their plane landed in Istanbul late Tuesday for a transit flight, according to unnamed Turkish police officials talking on the condition of anonymity.
While waiting for the connecting flight, the convict requested to a smoke cigarette,
The British police officers reportedly brought the man to an open area surrounded by a fence.
While the non-smoking police officers remained outside of the designated area, the convict reportedly climbed the fence and jumped to the other side and ran away.
British police warned their Turkish counterparts at the airport of the incident.
Istanbul police are on alert to find the culprit.
No other information was given by Turkish police on the convicted Indian.
