Borsa Istanbul flat at opening

ANKARA (AA) – The Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index rose 0.18 percent to open at 83,195.90 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark index of Turkey’s sole stock exchange climbed 148.09 points in the first transactions of the day.

In the second trading day of the week, the banking and holding sector indexes were up 0.35 and 0.49 percent, respectively.

The investment trusts sector was the best performer among sub-indexes, rising by 0.70 percent, while the leasing and factoring sector experienced a loss of 0.59 percent.

The lira gained ground against the dollar as the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 3.7680 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, compared with 3.7740 at Monday’s close.

Gold held at $1,214.49 an ounce.

U.S. crude futures increased by 0.53 percent to $53.03 a barrel, while benchmark Brent crude futures rose by 0.60 percent to $55.56.

Turkish markets will focus on Turkey’s Central Bank’s monetary policy committee decision about raising, holding or lowering interest rates on Tuesday as well as Fitch’s rating review on Friday.
