HATAY, Turkey (AA) – Two Syrian nationals succumbed to their wounds at a hospital Thursday when a bomb they were allegedly making set off prematurely inside their hideout in southern Turkey’s Hatay province Wednesday, Turkish authorities said.

Hatay Governor’s Office said in a statement that initial reports suggest the two Syrians were injured while they were making explosives.

They later died at the Mustafa Kemal University hospital.

According to a security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, the explosion took place at a home in Kurtulus neighborhood of Reyhanli town near Syrian border.

A weapon and a silencer were also seized from the house, according to the regional governor’s office.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
