ANKARA (AA) – Bayer Leverkusen's Lars and Sven Bender will retire at the end of the 2020-2021 season, their club said on Monday.

“Lars and Sven Bender will not renew their expiring contracts at Bayer 04 and will end their professional playing careers at the end of the current season,“ the Bundesliga said on Twitter.

Bender twins, 31, said that playing football becomes hard for them over some physical difficulties.

“Everyone who knows us knows that we give 100% every day. That was always the basic requirement for us. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to continuously access this with all the pain and physical problems from which we are suffering more and more,” they said.

They played over 400 games combined in a total for Bayer Leverkusen.
