Basketball World Cup: USA beat Australia, defends title

ANKARA (AA) – USA defeated Australia 73-56 to win the FIBA Women's World Cup on Sunday evening at Santiago Martin Arena on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife.

US women defended the title and claimed the gold medal after going on an impressive run in the third quarter to establish an insurmountable lead over Australia.

Australia's scoring leader Liz Cambage only scored 7 points on a 2/10 shooting. Alanna Smith scored 10 points for the 'Opals'.

For USA, Diana Taurasi scored 13 points, Breanna Stewart scored 10 points, Brittney Griner scored 15 points.

Separately, Spain claimed bronze medal as they toppled Belgium 67-60 in third place game.
