ANKARA (AA) – Arab countries and groups lined up on Friday to condemn Thursday’s terror attack in the French city of Nice that left scores dead.
In a statement, Tunisian President Beci Caid Essebsi declared that “Whatever harms the French people also harms us”.
Essebsi also told French Ambassador to Tunisia François Gouyette that the two countries’ relations were based on “solidarity, friendship and cooperation”.
Such acts of terrorism, the president said, “do not differentiate between religions, nationalities or states”.
In a separate statement, the Tunisian Foreign Ministry voiced its “deep solidarity with France in the latter’s efforts to combat terrorism”.
Tunisia, the ministry went on to assert, “supports all actions taken by the French government to ensure the country’s territorial integrity and security of its citizens”.
Saudi Arabia likewise decried the attack, expressing its “solidarity with France in the face of terrorism”.
An official source quoted by the Saudi Press Agency voiced the kingdom’s condemnation of “the heinous terrorist act [in Nice] in the strongest possible terms”.
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, also denounced Thursday’s attack, describing it as a “criminal and ugly” act.
“The ugliness of this heinous crime reaffirms the need to redouble international efforts to confront all forms of violence,” the ministry said in a statement.
And speaking to Jordan’s official Petra Press Agency, a spokesman for the Jordanian government said yesterday’s attack constituted “further proof that the terrorists — using barbaric and inhumane methods — target the innocent everywhere and threaten world peace”.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, for his part, conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families, the French people, and his French counterpart, Francois Hollande.
According to Palestine’s official WAFA news agency, Abbas went on to denounce the “cowardly” attack in Nice in the “strongest possible terms”.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, too, voiced its condemnation of the “horrific terrorist attack” in France.
“Such cowardly acts do not differentiate between people of different religions or nationalities and bring nothing but destruction,” the ministry said in a statement.
“This attack will only bolster the resolve of the international community to confront the scourge of terrorism,” it added.
Egypt’s Al-Azhar, one of the highest seats of learning in the Sunni-Muslim world, likewise condemned the attack, reiterating its “categorical rejection” of all forms of violence and terrorism.
It also stressed the need to unify efforts to “eradicate terrorism and rid the world of its evils”.
Northern Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), meanwhile, likewise condemned Friday’s attack.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attack that targeted civilians in southern France. As the government and people of the KRG, we stand with France and share their sorrow,” a statement on the KRG’s official website read.
“This attack once more illustrates the challenges facing the international community,” it added.
