Anadolu Agency, Reuters deal to serve world news media

ANKARA (AA) – Under a new deal, Anadolu Agency — Turkey’s top news provider, celebrating its 100th anniversary — has started conveying its video news in English via Reuters, one of the world’s premier news agencies.

The pact, which went into effect in December, follows on other projects to expand Anadolu's global coverage, including deals with Agence France-Presse (AFP), Imageforum, and Getty Images.

Along the same lines, Anadolu Agency signed a video distribution deal with London-based Reuters, which has more than 2,000 newspaper, TV, and broadcast subscribers worldwide.

Under the deal, Anadolu Agency's video news in English bearing the distinctive Anadolu Agency logo has started to be distributed via Reuters Connect to the world's biggest media outlets.

Yilmaz Yaman, Anadolu Agency’s marketing and corporate director, said Anadolu Agency Video News started to be used by 26 broadcasters in 16 countries. The deal allows people in countries such as the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Spain, Malaysia, and the Netherlands to watch the news with the Anadolu Agency logo.

Yilmaz said that under the deal, Anadolu Agency will provide service across the world.

“As we witness the most important events in the world, Anadolu Agency will share its content with Reuters Connect, one of the world's largest digital content platforms, and serve various new customer groups in a transformed media environment,” he said.

“Under this agreement, we will be performing an important service on behalf of our country as well as strengthening the Anadolu Agency brand worldwide.”

Justine Flatley, Reuters' senior manager for partnerships, said: "Our partnership with Anadolu Agency is important as it provides Reuters Connect customers with access to the most pressing stories in a part of the world that often leads the news agenda. We are confident that our partnership with Anadolu Agency will improve our customers’ ability to report the news from the Middle East and beyond."

Hasan Oymez, the editor-in-chief of Anadolu Agency’s Visual News Department, said videos produced from all over the world are important for reaching out to media organizations around the globe via a wider platform.

"This cooperation, which will allow us to reach world media faster and more effectively with Anadolu Agency's strongly presented regions within its broad journalist network, is good news for the world media as well," Oymez said, adding that the deal will also enable the agency to tackle news from around the world and in Turkey from a unique perspective.

Via its digital content platform anadoluimages.com, Anadolu Agency currently transmits nearly 6 million photos with text in in both Turkish and English to world media outlets. As part of its centennial year projects, the platform aims to add another 1 million archive photos, expanding its global reach even further.
