Africa's COVID-19 death toll surpasses 114,000

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) – At least 114,083 people have died across Africa due to complications induced by coronavirus, the African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday.

In its latest update, the health agency said over 4.2 million cases have been registered, while more than 3.8 million have recovered to date.

The continent managed to conduct laboratory tests on 40.59 million tests.

Of the five geographical regions on the continent, Southern Africa recorded more than 1.9 million cases, North Africa 1.3 million, East Africa 522,000, West Africa 433,600 and Central Africa 137,800.

At least 60,300 people have been killed by the disease in Southern Africa, 36,400 in North Africa, 9,400 in East Africa, 5,800 in West Africa and 2,200 in Central Africa.​​​​​​​
