KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) – An Afghan security training center in the capital Kabul came under armed assault on Thursday morning, an official confirmed.

A training facility of the National Directorate of Security, the country's principal spy service, came under assault at around 10:00 am (0530GMT), during morning rush hour, Hashmat Stanikzai, spokesman for the Afghan National Police’s (ANP) 101-Asmaye Zone, told Anadolu Agency.

He added that special forces have been dispatched to the area to take on the attackers, who are hiding in an a building under construction near the training facility.

The local Pajhwok News reported that heavy blasts were heard prior to the armed assault.

A day earlier, at least 67 people were killed and more than 30 injured when a suspected suicide bomber detonated himself at a private student coaching center in the capital’s Dasht-e-Barchi area, a Shia majority part of the city.

In a week-long spate of violence across Afghanistan, hundreds of lives have been lost.
