ANKARA (AA) – Turkish fighter jets have killed seven PKK terrorists in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey, the military said on Thursday.

According to a Turkish General Staff statement, the warplanes carried out airstrikes on PKK hideouts in northern Iraq's Zap region and Turkey’s Hakkari province on Wednesday.

In northern Iraq, the airstrikes killed three PKK terrorists, who were planning an attack in Zap region, the statement said.

Four other terrorists were killed in Cukurca and Yuksekova districts of Hakkari province, it added.

Airstrikes on PKK targets in northern Iraq — where the terrorist group has its main base in Mt. Qandil running along the Iranian border — and southeastern Turkey have been carried out regularly since July 2015, when it resumed its armed campaign.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S. — has killed more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians.
