ANKARA (AA) – Five PKK terrorists have been killed in a clash with security forces in Turkey's eastern Mus province, the local governor's office said early Thursday.

The incident occurred Wednesday when terrorists opened fire on security forces in Yilanli village in Varto district despite warnings, the office said in a statement.

Two female terrorists were among those killed during the clash.

The governor's office said the fight against terrorism will continue across Mus to ensure the peace and safety of citizens.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women and children.
