BINGOL, Turkey (AA) – Five PKK terrorists were killed in a military operation in eastern Bingol province on Tuesday, said a security source.

The terrorists were killed in Genc district as part of the operation against the organization's winter configuration, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media.

The operation remains underway, the source added.

Meanwhile, Turkish security forces arrested 51 suspects linked to the group in five districts of western Izmir province.

PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU. It has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years, during which more than 40,000 people have been killed.

Since the group resumed its armed campaign in July 2015, more than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives.
