IZMIR, Turkey (AA) – Police in the Aegean province of Izmir arrested five suspected Daesh members early Wednesday in connection with the Istanbul New Year’s nightclub attack that killed 39, a police source said.

Turkish anti-terror teams conducted an operation in four addresses in Izmir’s Bornova and Buca districts, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The source added that the number of arrests is expected to rise.

On Monday, eight people were arrested by anti-terror police from Istanbul, followed by a further eight suspects on Tuesday, but as yet the alleged perpetrator of the nightclub attack remains at large.

Authorities have released security camera images of the alleged killer, who shot dead a police officer and civilian outside the venue on the European shore of the Bosporus before entering and opening fire on revelers.
