5.4 earthquake shakes central Italy

ROME (AA) – A 5.4 magnitude earthquake shook Italy’s central region of Marche late Wednesday.

The earthquake occurred in the Macerata province at 7.10 p.m. local time (1710GMT).

The province is located 233 kilometers (145 miles) northeast of the capital Rome.

No casualties have been reported.

Italian channel Rai News 24 says that the power went out at the epicenter of the earthquake, Castel Sant’angelo, leaving the city in the dark.

The earthquake was strongly felt in Rome.
