3 migrants die as boat sinks near Turkish coast

EDIRNE, Turkey (AA) – Three migrants were killed when a boat carrying at least eight people sank in Meric River in northwestern Turkey early Wednesday, according to a Turkish gendarme source.

Five others were rescued by Turkish security forces and fishermen, the source, who did not want to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

The survivors were taken to hospitals in Enez and Kesan districts in northwestern Edirne province.

Meric River is in northwest Turkey and marks the land border of Turkey with Greece.
