25 injured in NYC explosion

NEW YORK (AA) – Twenty-five people were injured in an outdoor explosion in New York City, according to the city’s Fire Department.

Twenty-four of the injuries are minor and one is treated as serious, authorities told the media. The cause of the explosion at 135 West 23rd Street in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan was not immediately known.

Police officers are combing the area for devices to prevent a potential second explosion, according to media reports.

Earlier in the day, a pipe bomb explosion in Secaucus, New Jersey, forced the cancellation of a charity run.

That blast caused no casualties.
