2 policemen killed in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH (AA) – Two Saudi policemen were killed in a shooting attack in eastern Saudi Arabia on Sunday, according to the kingdom’s Interior Ministry.

The official SPA news agency quoted ministry spokesman Mansour al-Turki as saying a police patrol came under fire by unidentified gunmen in Dammam, the capital of the Eastern Province.

Two policemen were injured and succumbed to their wounds while being transferred to hospital, al-Turki said.

The spokesman termed the shooting as a “terrorist crime”, for which no group has yet claimed responsibility.

Sunday’s attack is the first attack in Saudi Arabia since the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage, which ended last week.

Last month, Saudi authorities said they had foiled two terrorist attacks in the eastern al-Qatif province.
