HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – Two police officers were martyred and 10 other officers were injured Thursday in a car bomb attack by PKK terrorists on a police station in the southeast province of Hakkari, security sources told Anadolu Agency.

One civilian was injured in the attack.

Terrorists detonated the bomb at the entrance to the city located near a security checkpoint, according to security sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The wounded are being treated at Hakkari State Hospital.

An operation to arrest the terrorists is underway in the region, sources added.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU — resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 7,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
