ANKARA (AA) – A 174-million-year-old dinosaur fossil has been unearthed in northwestern China, according to a magazine.
According to a research published in Nature Communication magazine on Tuesday, the fossil is believed to belong to a new species.
The length of the dinosaur, named Lingwulong (Amazing Dragon), is around 10-15 meters (32-49 feet) long.
The microcephalic species, which weigh 70 tons, were roaming as small groups, the article said.
According to earlier researches, the Diplodocus family — which the Amazing Dragon belonged — lived 160-million-year ago. But the last findings have shown that the family dated back even earlier than that.
Diplodocus is a genus of diplodocid sauropod dinosaurs, which includes some of the longest creatures ever lived on earth.
It is said in the article that the new exploration may work as a hint for finding older fossils.
