13 PKK terrorists killed in SE operations

ANKARA (AA) – Thirteen PKK terrorists were killed on Tuesday in security operations in Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari, Mardin and Sirnak provinces, according to the military.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Turkish General Staff said 10 PKK terrorists were killed in the Cukurca district of Hakkari province.

Another operation in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province saw one PKK terrorist killed, bringing the total number of dead in the district to 325.

In operations in Sirnak province, two PKK terrorists were killed, bringing the number of killed there to 299.

Several weapons were also seized during the operations, the statement added.

Another terrorist who escaped from a PKK camp in northern Iraq surrendered to Turkish security forces on Tuesday in the Silopi district of Sirnak.

On Wednesday, two members of the Turkish security forces were wounded during an operation in the Varto district of eastern Mus province to capture a group of suspects with possible links to the PKK terrorist organization.

PKK – also seen as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, over 400 members of the security forces including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 3,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
