US stock market opens lower

NEW YORK (AA) – The U.S. stock market opened lower Thursday with a decline in shares of tech companies and investment banks.

The Dow fell 55 points to begin the day at 21,422 points, and the S&P 500 lost 9 points to 2,422 points.

The Nasdaq lost 39 points to start trading at 6,111 points.

At the first bell, investment banks Goldman Sachs and Citigroup saw their shares decline 0.5 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.

Among tech companies, Apple stocks fell 0.8 percent, while Microsoft shares lost 1.1 percent.
