UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Thursday down 0.09 percent at 92,628.80 points with a trading volume of around 4.6 billion Turkish liras (around $869.8 million).

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index ended the day with a 79.15-point decrease from Wednesday's close of 92,707.95 points, while it opened the day at 92,723.34 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 91,883.27 and 92,940.04 points, while 43 stocks on the index were on the rise, 47 on the decline, and 10 flat compared to the previous close.

The total market value of listed shares on the BIST 100 was around 600.8 billion Turkish liras ($112.3 billion) at close, while the banking sector index dropped by 0.47 percent and holding sector index rose by 0.18 percent.

Among all sectors, the communication sector index was the best performer, rising 1.95 percent, and the mining sector index saw the biggest drop, losing 5.78 percent.

Shares of energy company Isiklar climbed the most, up 12.50 percent, while stocks of mining company Koza Anadolu Metal Madencilik performed the worst, falling 7.96 percent.

The BIST 100's most-traded listed companies were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, energy company Ipek, private lender Garanti, mining company Koza and state lender Halk.

The USD/TRY exchange rate dropped to 5.2950 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Thursday, compared with 5.3180 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate also decreased to 6.0490 by market close, versus 6.0670 at the previous close, while the British pound/lira exchange rate reached 6.8310 Turkish liras, compared with 6.8170 at Wednesday's close.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold traded for $1,228.80 as of 5.30 p.m. local time (1430GMT) Thursday, up from 1,224.25 at the previous close.

As of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at $63.30 per barrel compared with $63.48 at the end of Wednesday.
