Turkish stocks down at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark BIST 100 index was down 0.33 percent at the close of the daily session on Wednesday.

The index fell 256.97 points to close at 77,171.59. Total trading volume was 3 billion Turkish liras ($963 million).

Turkey’s banking sector index fell by 0.62 percent while the holding sector rose 0.43 percent.

The insurance sector was the biggest climber — 1.24 percent — while the trading sector saw the greatest fall — 1.41 percent.

The most heavily traded stocks were in Garanti Bank, Turkish Airlines, Akbank, Halkbank and Is Bank.

The Istanbul Gold Exchange rose 0.71 percent and gold trading stood at 129,935 liras ($41,685) per kilogram.

The lira’s value against the dollar fell to trade at 3.1150 compared to Tuesday’s closing rate of 3.1130.
