OSMANIYE, Turkey (AA) – One PKK terrorist was killed by security forces during an air operation in Turkey’s southern Osmaniye province, according to a statement from the governor’s office on Wednesday.

The operation was launched at around 8.00 p.m. local time (1700GMT) on Monday in the Amanos Mountains, the statement said.

“As of 1 a.m. on Tuesday (2200GMT on Monday), the gendarme and security forces launched a search and combing operation during which they found one terrorist group member dead,” it added.

The forces also seized one M16 rifle with five chargers, 189 shells, two hand grenades, and anti-tank rocket launcher ammunition.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU — resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
