Lawyer remanded over aiding Turkish prosecutor's murder

ISTANBUL (AA) – An Istanbul court has remanded a lawyer on suspicion of providing the gun used in murder of a prosecutor in Istanbul in 2015, a judicial source said Friday.

Istanbul 5th Peace Court put Murat Canim behind bars pending trial for aiding the DHKP-C terrorists who shot dead Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz at Istanbul's main courthouse on March 31, 2015, the source said, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Canim is charged with “attempting to overthrow constitutional order ” and “aiding deliberate killing “.

Kiraz was martyred after being taken as hostage in his office at the Caglayan Courthouse by two DHKP-C terrorists, who gained access to the building posing as lawyers.

The prosecutor was shot in the head and injured by his captors after hours of negotiations between Turkish police and the two hostage-takers. He later died of his wounds in hospital.
