Borsa Istanbul goes up in opening session

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index started the day with a 338.73-point increase to open at 94,994.04 points on Tuesday.

On the first trading day of the week, the BIST 100 index rose by 0.36 percent.

The banking and holding sector indices went up by 0.48 percent and 0.32 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the textile sector index was the best performer with a 1.22-percent rise while the sports index started the day with the biggest decline, falling by 0.92 percent.

The BIST 100 was up 372.83 points or 0.40 percent to reach 94,655.31 points, with a total trading volume of 4.2 billion Turkish liras (approximately $1.18 billion) at close on Friday.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate declined slightly to 3.5470 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, compared with 3.5480 at Friday’s close.
