Turkish stocks down at midweek open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,420.40 points on Wednesday, decreasing 0.81% or 11.64 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 0.81% to close at 1,432.04 points, with a daily trading volume of 13.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

One US dollar traded for 8.6100 Turkish liras as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), up from 8.5170.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 10.5200, versus 10.4370 a day before, while one British pound traded for 12.1900 Turkish liras, rising from 12.1140.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $70.48 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
