Turkish sight-impaired weightlifter breaks world record

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish visually-impaired weightlifter Nur Sultan Uzug set a world record in international blind sports championships in Egypt.

Uzug, competing in women's 48kg deadlift category, broke a record after lifting 111-kilogram.

Also, Uzug ranked second in powerlifting and bench press categories.

Turkey's Dondu Yesilyurt, competing in bench press category, was victorious in women's 60-kg. She claimed the second place in powerlifting category.

In women's 67.5-kg, Turkish weightlifter Gulistan Ozdemir ranked third in powerlifting and bench press categories, while Bircan Simsek came second for the same categories in women's 75-kg.

Around 120 athletes from 10 countries compete for International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Powerlifting and Bench Press world titles in Luxor, Egypt between Nov. 13-16.
