ADEN, Yemen (AA) – Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) would support higher education in Yemen, officials said Sunday.

The TIKA officials and the rector of Aden University, Al Hidr Nasir Lasur have met to discuss Turkey’s assistance to the university works.

“Turkey has made great progress in the field of medicine and health services. For this reason, we want the Turkish government to support Aden University in general and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in particular,” the rector told Anadolu Agency.

Lasur stated that his university has 22 faculties and 11 research centers across the country, however, some branches were heavily damaged due to the civil war.

Abdullah Sari, TIKA representative in Yemen said he would prepare a report on the needs of Aden University and present it to the Turkish authorities as well as medicine facilities in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir.

Established in 1992, Turkey’s government-run aid agency is responsible for implementing Turkey’s developmental cooperation policies overseas.
