Qatar’s emir meets new Turkish ambassador

By Ahmed Youssef

DOHA (AA) – Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani met Monday with new Turkish ambassador Fikret Ozer, who presented his credentials to the Qatari ruler.

During the meeting, Ozer conveyed greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Qatari emir, according to Qatar’s official QNA News Agency.

Ozer, 62, replaced Ahmed Demirok, who served as the Turkish ambassador in Doha from October 2013 to February 2017.

Ozer had previously served as Turkey’s consul-general in the Saudi city of Jeddah for four years.

Turkey and Qatar officially recognized one another shortly after the latter’s independence from the U.K. in 1971.

The two countries share identical views about regional developments, particularly the situation in countries like Syria and Libya.
