Journo detained in Yemen’s Aden ‘without justification’

By Mehmet Nuri Ucar

ADEN, Yemen (AA) – Yemeni security forces on Monday arrested a journalist in the coastal city of Aden, the Yemeni government’s interim headquarters, according to local sources.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported detention of Fathi bin Lazirq, who works as a reporter for Aden-based daily Al-Ghad.

The Aden Journalists Syndicate, however, has accused local security forces of detaining bin Lazirq — whose whereabouts are reportedly still unknown — “without justification”.

Since 2015, impoverished Yemen has been wracked by conflict between Shia Houthi rebels and the Aden-based government backed by a Saudi-led military coalition.
