JAKARTA (AA) – Three civillians were killed and a child was seriously wounded after a separatist group opened fire on a small plane in Indonesia’s Papua province on Monday.
According to the military spokesman in Papua Col. Muhammad Aidi, the attack started after the separatist group shot at an aircraft carrying police troops in Kenyam Airport. The pilot was injured in the attack.
“The plane flew from Wamena to Kenyam, ” said Aidi to Anadolu Agency on Monday.
There was a firefight between army troops and the separatist group after the attack. Aidi said the 16-strong group fled to the village near the airport.
Voting for regional elections is due to take place across Indonesia on Wednesday.
