Erdogan in ‘positive’ phone call with Putin

By Sinan Uslu

ANKARA (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday had a “positive” phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, according to a Turkish presidential source.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, the source said Erdogan and Putin had a “very positive” conversation.

A written statement will be issued about the conversation, the source said, without specifying the time.

On Tuesday, Turkish presidential sources said Putin will telephone Erdogan at 12.00 noon Turkish local time (0900GMT). The move comes two days after Erdogan wrote Putin a conciliatory letter following months of strained ties.

Following the November 2015 downing of the Russian warplane that violated Turkish airspace, Kremlin ordered sanctions on Turkish food products, an end to visa-free travel, and a ban on Russian tourists taking package holidays in Turkey.
