ALGIERS (AA) – Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Tuesday appointed his office chief, Ahmed Ouyahia, as prime minister, replacing Abdul-Majeed Tabboun, who had been in office for only 79 days.

“In line with Article 91 of the constitution, the president ended the term of Prime Minister Abdul-Majeed Tabboun,” according to a presidential statement carried by the Algeria Press Service.

“According to the same constitutional provision, and after consulting the parliamentary majority, the president entrusted Ahmed Ouyahia with the premiership,” the statement added.

Born in 1952, Ouyahia is a graduate of Algeria’s Higher School of Management. He holds a postgraduate degree in political science from the University of Algiers.
