56 Palestinian women held in Israeli jails: NGO

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – At least 56 Palestinian women are currently languishing in Israeli jails, a local Palestinian NGO said on Tuesday.

“Israeli authorities are holding 56 Palestinian women, including 12 minors in Hasharon and Damon prisons,” the Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a statement marking the International Women’s Day.

The NGO said a number of jailed Palestinian women were suffering from diseases and needed to be transferred to hospitals.

“The prisoners are also deprived from family visits,” the statement said.

According to Palestinian official figures, more than 7,000 Palestinians are held in detention facilities throughout Israel.

Marked on March 8, the International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
