Wall Street closes mixed with oil up, tech losses

NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street closed mixed on the last trading day of the week as crude oil prices increased but stocks of tech giants fell.

The Dow Jones rose 0.12 percent to close t at 18,003 points while the S&P 500 closed flat at 2,091. The Nasdaq decreased 0.80 percent to end the day at 4,906 points.

The Dow increase of 0.6 percent overall this week as the S&P 500 rose 0.5 percent. The Nasdaq shed 0.7 percent.

At the final bell, oil prices were on the rise.

American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was up by 1.4 percent to $43.76 per barrel and international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $45.16 — a1.4 percent increase.

Shares of tech giants Google and Microsoft posted losses Friday.

Google, the world’s second biggest company by market capitalization, was down 5.4 percent.

The U.S.’ third biggest company by market capitalization, Microsoft, saw its shares decline by 7 percent. Analysts said the company trimmed around $30 billion in market capitalization from falling stocks Friday.
