BOGOTA (AA) – The Venezuelan government on Thursday condemned the European Commission president’s remarks on the country’s leader.

Venezuelan Foreign Ministry denounced the “hostile and nefarious remarks ” by Jean-Claude Juncker in a written statement.

“Venezuela will not tolerate any action that seeks to harm the dignity of the Venezuelan people, ” it said.

The statement added the EU's “high bureaucratic authorities ” should “rule out aggression and offense as a method of external relations. ”

Junker said a day earlier that President Nicolas Maduro should be taken before an international court.

His remarks came during a news conference in Brussels with Colombian President Ivan Duque and EU foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini.
