US’s senior security official holds talks in Cairo

CAIRO (AA) – U.S. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats on Tuesday discussed in Cairo ways to reach political compromises in the current Middle East crises, according to Egypt’s presidency.</p> <p>According to a statement issued by the presidency, Coats, who paid an unannounced visit to Egypt, was received by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and head of General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.</p> <p>During their meeting, they discussed ways to boost security and intelligence cooperation between the Washington and Cairo in countering terrorism and extremism, the statement said.</p> <p>The meeting also saw exchange of views on developments on a number of issues in the Middle East, it said.</p> <p>Al-Sisi stressed strong ties between Cairo and Washington particularly in the field of counter-terrorism, security and intelligence cooperation.</p> <p>Coats, for his part, emphasized Washington’s keenness for continuous coordination with Cairo, especially over the situation in the Middle East, the statement added.
