WASHINGTON (AA) – The Pentagon plans to stop fueling Saudi Arabian planes fighting in the Yemen war, according to reports U.S. media reports Friday.

Media reported, citing anonymous high-level U.S. sources, said the Pentagon’s decision process on the issue was ongoing.

When the final decision will be made or Congress notified was not clear.

The U.S. has remained unresponsive to airstrikes in which thousands of victims have died in war in Yemen, the reports said.

A possible decision on refueling Saudi planes would have little impact on the fight, the U.S. media said, adding it would allow the U.S. administration to signal action against Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh is providing 80 percent of its refueling, according to the reports.

Impoverished Yemen has remained wracked by violence since 2014, when Shia Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including the capital, Sanaa.

The conflict escalated in 2015 when Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a devastating air campaign in Yemen aimed at rolling back Houthi gains.
