UPDATE – Turkish stocks up at Monday close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 2.12% to close Monday at 1,556.77 points.

After starting the week at 1,525.03 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 32.28 points from 1,524.49 points at the previous close.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,508.90 and 1,558.81 points — 88 stocks on the index rose, 11 fell and one was flat compared to Friday's close.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.16 trillion Turkish liras ($155 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 29.7 billion Turkish liras (nearly $4 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producer Kardemir, conglomerate Dogan Holding, and gold miner Koza Altin.

Liquefied petroleum gas company Aygaz was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while stocks of carton producer Kartonsan dropped the most with 3.59%.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $55 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday.
