UPDATE – Turkish stocks up 0.19 pct at daily close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday with a 0.19-percent hike to close at 102,448.42 points.

After opening the day at 102,765.06 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 193.41 points from the previous close.

Peaking at 103,852.06 points, the BIST 100's daily low was 101,755.58 points during Tuesday's trading, as 36 stocks on the index rose, 57 fell, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.

With a market value of 666 billion Turkish liras ($127.6 billion), the benchmark index posted a 7.99 billion Turkish lira ($1.53 billion) daily trading volume.

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.39 billion) and private lenders Garanti Bankasi ($7.27 billion) and Akbank ($6.93 billion).

Garanti Bankasi, Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and another private lender Is Bankasi recorded the highest trade volumes of the day.

Stocks of Is Bankasi (ISCTR) suffered the largest decline on Tuesday — down 6.43 percent — while shares of Sekerbank (SKBNK) showed the top performance, rising 4.24 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 5.2080 as of the daily close, versus 5.2190 at Monday's close.

One euro traded for 5.9570 liras, compared to 5.9780 at the previous close.

The British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.7700 by market close, down from Monday's close of 6.8290.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,314 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, up from $1,312 at the previous close.

With a day-range of $61.73 to $63.02, the price of Brent oil was around $62.37 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
