UPDATE – Turkish stocks end week with gain

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week up 0.85 percent to close at 103,304.05 points on Friday.

After starting the day at 102,890.87 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 871.76 points from the previous close.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted 1.74 percent increase, as it has surged around 16.24 percent since the beginning of 2019.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 102,643.54 points while it peaked at 103,380.35 points — 67 stocks on the index rose, 19 fell, and 14 were flat compared to the previous close.

The index posted a daily trading volume of some 7.5 billion Turkish liras ($1.37 billion), closing the week with a market value of around 680 billion Turkish liras ($124 billion).

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti Bankasi, and energy company Tupras.

The highest trading volumes were seen in stocks of iron and steel producer Kardemir, Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Garanti Bankasi.

Stocks of conglomerate Metro Holding (METRO) were the top gainers of the day, up 7.69 percent, and shares of leading mobile operator Turkcell posted the biggest drop, falling 4.33 percent.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,304.50 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,298.35 at the previous close.

With a day range of $66.14 to $67.72, the price of Brent oil was around $66.80 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday.

At the beginning of 2019, the price of Brent oil was around $53 per barrel.
