UPDATE – Turkish stocks end week down on Friday

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week at 1,397.82 points, down 0.26% from the previous close.

After starting Friday at 1,399.44 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 3.70 points from Thursday's close of 1,401.52 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,396.49 points and 1,405.91 points, with 47 stocks on the index rising, 47 down, and six flat from the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of around 994 billion Turkish liras ($121.6 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 14.7 billion liras ($1.8 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by gold miner Koza Altin, iron and steel manufacturer Eregli Demir Celik, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Stocks of Gozde Girisim, a Turkish private equity firm controlled by food giant Ulker, posted the largest rise with 10%, while shares of cement producer Konya Cimento dropped the most, 5.20%.

One ounce of gold was traded for $1,768.40 by market close, slightly up from $1,768.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.50 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT) on Friday.
