MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – A Turkish soldier Tuesday succumbed to his injuries sustained in a PKK terror attack in southeastern Turkey, security sources said.

The soldier — among two injured in PKK attack in Mardin — died at a hospital in southeastern Diyarbakir province.

Soldiers were heavily injured when PKK members opened fire during the Turkish army’s anti-terror operation in Mardin’s Dargecit district.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women and children.
