UPDATE – Turkish gymnast wins 1st silver in European competition

UPDATES WITH WINNING SILVER MEDAL IN 4X100M RELAY

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey on Sunday won its first ever silver medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Scotland.

In the men’s rings final, the 23-year-old national athlete Ibrahim Colak got 15,100 points following Greek athlete Eleftherios Petrounias, who won gold medal with 15,466 points.

Courtney Tulloch from the U.K. took bronze, according to the European Championships website.

In a congratulatory message, Turkey's Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu said Colak recorded a “historic victory “.

Meanwhile, Turkey's national athlete Yasemin Can on Sunday won bronze medal in the women's 5,000 meters during the European Athletics Championships in Berlin.

In 2016, Can had won gold medal in women’s 5,000 meters in the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam.

On the sixth day of European Athletics Championships, the Turkish team, comprising of Emre Zafer Barnes, Jak Ali Harvey, Yigitcan Hekimoglu and Ramil Guliyev, bagged silver medal in 4×100 meters relay men qualifying rounds.

The U.K. won gold and the Netherlands bagged bronze medals.
