UPDATE – Turkey's stock exchange market ends day with gains

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index went up 0.67 percent to close at 96,731.76 points on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index recorded a 644.49-point hike, versus 96,087.27 points at Monday's close, while it started the day at 96,451.28 points.

The BIST 100's daily-low was 95,536.85 points while the index reached 97,100.26 during Tuesday's trading. Compared with the previous close, 45 stocks on the index rose, 44 fell, and 11 were flat.

Among all sectors, the BIST chemicals petrol plastic index posted the highest increase — up 2.87 percent –, and the BIST food beverage index fell the most with a 2.21-percent drop.

Shares of energy and construction company Isiklar Enerji Yapi Holding (IEYHO) recorded the top gain by rising 9.52 percent, while stocks of brewer and soft drinks manufacturer Anadolu Efes (AEFES) posted the worst performance second day in a row, going down 4.60 percent.

By market close, the total market value of the BIST 100's listed companies was around 634 billion liras ($103 billion) with a trading volume of 8.93 billion liras ($1.46 billion).

Top companies by market capitalization were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.80 billion), iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($6.36 billion), and energy giant Tupras ($5.82 billion).

On Tuesday, leading stocks with highest trade volume were private lender Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemicals producer Petkim, defense company Aselsan and state-run lender Halkbank.

At daily close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1390, while one dollar traded for 6.1260 liras at Monday's close.

The euro/lira rate was stable at 7.0330, compared to 7.0340 at the previous close, and the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 8.0240, versus 8.0100 at close on Monday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was $1,185.00 at Tuesday's close, while the price was $1,193.70 at the previous close.

As of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at around $84.68 per barrel, hovering between $83.73 and $85.05 during Tuesday's trading.

Since the beginning of this year, Brent oil price has risen from $66 a barrel.
