UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 0.72% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.72% to 119,338.85 points on Tuesday.

After starting the day at 118,792.40 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 853.61 points from Monday's close of 118,485.24 points.

The Borsa Istanbul posted a 29.9% rise this April-June, its strongest quarterly performance in 11 years, Turkey’s finance and treasury minister said last Thursday.

During the day, the index hovered between 117,075.09 and 119,745.17 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 867.65 billion Turkish liras ($126.74 billion) by market close, with a record daily trading volume of 35.06 billion Turkish liras ($5.1 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 43 stocks on the index rose, 51 were down and six were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by real investment trust firm Emlak Konut, glass producer Sisecam and chemical giant Petkim.

Real investment trust firm Alarko was the best performer, with its shares up 9.98%, while conglomerate Net Holding dropped the most, losing 3.47%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,779.80 by market close, up from $1,777.60 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $43.10 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
